Reawakened in 2024
We believe in honoring the history and legacy of these humble motels as cultural icons that changed the landscape of domestic travel. This simple idea—drive up, park outside your room, then get up and go in the morning—fueled a hospitality revolution during a golden age of American travel. Motels became synonymous with freedom, adventure, and the open road. Families packed into station wagons chasing sunsets along rural highways, and the American dream had a new backdrop: the neon-lit sign of a roadside inn.
Everything old becomes new again. Over the years, Travelers had fallen into a state of disrepair, and we leaped at the opportunity of the property’s revitalization. Having been a landmark in Onekama since the 1950s, it deserved a second chance to become a gem once again. Our goal was to provide guests with warm hospitality and a unique design experience, catering to travelers looking for authenticity and a deeper connection to their destination.
When rejuvenating Travelers, we immersed ourselves in the world of 1950s-60s mid-century style. Our vision was clear – to create an inviting space rooted in functionality, clean lines, and simplicity, while blending historical charm and nostalgia with contemporary comforts. A modern take on the mid-century motor lodge — inviting roadtrippers to slow down, stop, and stay awhile.
We didn’t just rescue a motel. We saw its soul and gave it room to breathe again. Travelers wasn’t reinvented. It was reawakened. And in doing so, we joined a quiet movement - one that honors the forgotten, the offbeat, the iconic.
